Scholarships
Kilgour Sports Boosters is pleased to provide player scholarships. Please contact the treasurer for more information. Applications are held in the strictest of confidence.

Age Eligibility
Fairfax Youth Softball League is based on a player's age, not grade. Some players may not be eligible to play with their grade classmates if they do not meet the age cutoff deadline of June 1.

Fairfax Youth Softball Teams
While Fairfax Youth Softball League is based on player's age, teams are generally based on grade groupings: Grades K-2 will make up the youngest team. Grades 3-4 will make up the older team for slow pitch.

Kilgour Softball - Frequently Asked Questions

Teams and Coaches

How are coaches and assistants chosen?
Anyone interested in serving as a coach or assistant coach may check the appropriate box on the Registration form. Kilgour softball uses this checkbox to gather the pool of coaches and assistants for a given season. Kilgour parents may request to be paired as a head and assistant coach by making a note on the registration form.

Do I need prior softball experience to coach softball?
No. Prior softball experience is not needed. Kilgour seeks coaches who are responsible, good communicators and good with students.

Uniforms and Equipment

How do I get Kilgour team uniforms?

Kilgour parents must secure all required uniforms and equipment. Kilgour Sports Boosters' Spirit Wear team sells softball uniforms at sign ups and many school events. Order forms are also available at the school or on-line in this website.

What softball uniform and equipment do I need?
Players must wear a blue Kilgour team uniform T-shirt and appropriate shoes such as molded soccer/softball cleats (recommended) or sneakers. Kilgour blue shorts and socks are optional. We also recommend players have a water bottle and ball marked with their name. Players are required to have a softball glove. The softball coordinator provides all bats, balls, and bases to the head coach. The Kilgour Sports Boosters will provide hats to each player.

What are the correct softball ball sizes?
Grades K-2: 11" Incrediball
Grades 3-4: Standard 11" ball (Green dot)

Softball Practices

When are softball practices?
Kilgour softball coaches determine their own team practice dates and times. Coaches will contact parents once they receive their team rosters. Softball practices often begin 2-3 weeks before the first game of the season. Kilgour practice field times are drawn at the coaches meeting. Younger divisions get first choice of practice times. Currently Kilgour has Field #2 at Lunken reserved Monday and Wednesday from 6-dark.

What if my child cannot make the practice time chosen by the coach?
Kilgour asks coaches and parents to work out practice conflicts. However, the scheduling needs of the coaches come first. Coaches are asked to try to accommodate the schedule of the players on the team, but this is not always be possible. Parents and players may need to adjust their schedules.
